Fawn Run Farm Mercantile, Rolling Prairie, In.

by Sharon Dettmer

“Relax, remember and rejuvenate.”

Marcy Dailey firmly believes in this mantra.

And from this mantra, the concept of Fawn Run Farm Mercantile takes root on the scenic grounds of her Rolling Prairie home, where Dailey is proprietor and the resident folk artist.

She is an accomplished seamstress, folk artist, poet, and long-time member of the La Porte County Master Gardener Association. Dailey adores gardening in her farm’s numerous gardens including shady Hellebore Hill located on the Dailey family’s 20-acre property.

And…she is a businesswoman- and artfully so, as the creative designer of Sew Many Things. The folk artist takes found items and transforms them into incredibly unique and “primitive” creations.

Most folks from the region are familiar with Dailey’s picturesque farm located at 3883 East 700 North in Rolling Prairie, Ind. It served as the site of her annual Prairie Pride at Christmas Folk Art Shows –a popular destination for those wanting to reveille in the spirit of Christmas past.

In addition, Dailey held her annual Prairie Pride Folk Art Show on the farm in the spring and, for several years, an outdoor harvest market in the fall.

In the venue of the family's handcrafted barn (a labor of love built by Dailey’s husband, Michael, close friends, and family members),visitors were treated to handcrafts, seasonal decorations, culinary delectables, antiques, refurbished furniture and works of art created by thirty artisans and antique dealers for close to a quarter of a century.

Now, Dailey flies nearly solo at the mercantile/ barn shop with her own brand of out-of-the-ordinary goods including her own folk art, primitive folk dolls (sock and character dolls), refurbished cabinets and furniture, primitive antiques, early wares, unique farmhouse furniture, and dried flowers from the farm.

Of course, there are so many things…seasonal decor, make-dos, and needful items to enjoy. That’s because “simple, yet beautiful” is Marcy Dailey’s mantra, too.
